“Digital care planning paves the way for both carers and agency staff avoiding conflicts with the residents”

The implementation of digital care planning has resulted in an assurance of the care delivery. Now, staff are able to support the residents easier than before. Even the agency staff!

In Denmark a range of LD care homes are seeing a great side effect to being digital: they are now using less agency staff, and those that do get involved know more precisely where to begin and what to do.

Less prose and fewer paper notes

An essential difference these Danish LD care homes are experiencing compared to earlier is that now staff have a way of sharing knowledge that allows everyone to provide their care in the best way possible. This is due to the descriptions and guides that are available for staff at the point of care – as opposed to “hidden away” in the back office or in a binder.

“A sticky note is worth nothing when it is time to document,” says Registered Manager Dorthe Petersen. “We have significantly reduced the amount of prose we write as well as the number of sticky notes used since we now have what we need in the Sekoia app. Staff no longer uses the phrase “Remember to” and our clear evidence for this is the reduction of critical errors...”

A powerful tool in LD

“We are hired to provide a professional service and for this Sekoia is a nice tool to have” Karl Schwartz, who is the Head of Learning Disability, explains.

“You have to remember that the software is only as good as we make it, through what we input into the system” In other words, managers are handed a powerful tool, but should at the same time be mindful of what they want to achieve with it. And why!

“It’s about creating the right conditions that provide the care staff with the tools they need in the respective situations they face” Dorthe Petersen concludes.
